Worst: A Nightmate on Elmstreet/RZ Halloween 2/1988 Blob/Piranha/The Crazies/2019 Black Christmas

Best:
If you consider it a remake, John Carpenters The Thing has to be on the list.

Next to that one, IT has to be one of the best horror remakes ever made.

Evil Dead I think struck a perfect balance between a horror remake doing it's own thing while still paying proper respect and homage to the original. Hollywood needs to watch this one and take notes.

While I really enjoyed the Friday remake in theaters, I found it kind of slow when I tried to watch it again a couple of years later. It was okay, I just felt like I'd seen that movie done better 8 other times.

While I'm not a huge fan, The Fly remake was clearly superior to the original.

TCM and Fright Night are both pretty good.

Rob Zombie's Halloween films. I'm sorry, just not a fan.

Psycho-Vince Vaughn does not equal Anthony Perkins in any universe.

Amityville Horror: The original is a guilty pleasure of mine, but the remake was a steaming pile of dog poop.

House of Wax and The Fog (Barf)

Nightmare on Elm Street: I did like Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy, but I could never quit get over the fact that he looked like a burnt cat. Rest of the movie was just boring as hell.

LOL the burnt cat made me chuckle, now I can't unsee it. I agree with most people's lists here. I think my favourite is Halloween 2018, with F13 2009 second. The worst remake is probably ANOES 2010, liked Freddy, but everything else was shit. Haven't actually seen the others.

I know norman bates in the psycho remake looks like nico from gta 4 or Mr bean

I thought Jackie did a great job as Freddy but Rooney Mara was all wrong casting for Nancy. The rest of the cast was good. The movie was boring though.

I've never seen it, but can I give a special nomination to Cabin Fever for being the most redundant remake? Why are we remaking movies that aren't even a decade and half old? The dismal reviews and box office returns shows what the interest level in that film was.

I just hope this current environment in Hollywood where you have to make a movie every few years to hold on to the rights for these franchises doesn't lead to more poorly planned sequels and misguided reboots.

Same I like the First Candyman.
This new one looks pretty good but obviously trailers can be Deceiving….. I will let you know what I think of it after I watch it this weekend.

Okay, this might get me banned from the forum but I really like The Thing (2011). Look I know it's not as good as JC's version but it's a solid film with great pacing and a brilliant performance from Mary Elizabeth Winstead. It works really well as a prequel. It has its issues but I like it.

Also, I liked the Elm Street remake which puts me in a group of one I think. I appreciated how dark it was. Freddy was sort of terrifying in it. Whereas he's a bit of a knob in the original seven films. That said, I'm Team Dream Warriors for life.

I hated Black Christmas 2019. But that's just a terrible film in its own right.

As for that remake for ANOES?...right actor in terms of his skills but I just couldn't get behind a lesser sadistic Freddy that made cruel jokes to his victims it was waaaay to serious.

Yeah 2019 and the other Black Christmas was wtf at least the 1st remake was an actual "horror" theme more than the 2019 version which was just a meh copy.

Good remakes are hard to come by, but I'll go with IT and the 2009 Friday the 13th.

I've never been a fan of NOES. The 2003 TCM movie was sort of "just another movie".

The Thing 2011 is a fantastic movie and is a prequel to the John Carpenter film it literally ends right where Carpenters film starts.
